Snakes in the forest

15. Snakes in the forest I start running past the trees silently to find prey quickly. I don’t want to leave them alone for too long since one-person can’t see everywhere at the same time. There could be dangerous animals that are hard to detect, and they could hurt the children before Sarah can do anything. Then again Sarah should be good at detecting them since she is a rabbit girl. They all should have good senses since they are partly animals. Maybe I am just worrying too much. The forest seems quiet again. I can’t hear the sounds from the children anymore. There are no living creatures near me. It is oddly calming to be here. Maybe I should consider staying here even after the children get to a safe place. Well I will have a lot of time to experience how it feels to live here since the war has just started in the outside world. I will have to take care of them until it ends, and everything becomes peaceful again. I suppose I shouldn’t keep feeding them onl

#10 The quest to find a living sword has begun. I assume that to find something like that we must head deeper to the south since the huge golem we encountered didn’t have much intellect even though it was living. Also, since it was so huge it must have been able to gather more mana that way. If a small object like a sword wants to reach the same point, then it should be in a place that has a lot more mana. We went through a rocky place that had little to no plants there. Beasts were similarly rare and most of the enemies were the same kind of rock monsters. There were some differences with them as in some had different shades of colors and depending on the color, they were more resistant to certain kind of magic. There was also one bigger than other ones that was incredibly tough. I had to help my companions in beating it since I’m not sure if they could have done it by themselves. If they can get better over time thanks to mana, then they couldn’t have done i

New beginnings

18. New beginnings I slowly walk to the direction where I think I came from. I can’t see anything, so I am only guessing where to go. I often stumble or fall down from all the things on the ground, but I just stand back up and keep going. I hit a dirt wall. The wide area must end here. I keep my hand at the dirt wall and walk to the left. Soon my hand feels the end of the wall. That must be the way out. I walk in that direction until I can see a faint light up ahead. I follow the light and it keeps getting stronger. The path starts going upwards and it is getting smaller too. I can see the sky now. It is very bright. I get up from the ground and look around. My eyes take a while to adjust to the light, but I soon see that the area around here is in a complete mess. The trees are on the ground and the area around the hole has been dug a lot. There is dirt and fallen trees everywhere. I should leave this place before it comes back. I feel something next to my leg.

#9

#9 It has been a while since I last wrote anything. Rann started to trust Tefa and the skeleton enough to let them keep a lookout. Then the skeleton offered to keep a look out for the whole night since he doesn’t sleep, and I accepted it happily. Since then I have been sleeping the whole night properly. It has been blissful. We have traveled a long way to the south and encountered lots of different races during it. I wanted to visit them all, but most were hostile and didn’t let us in to their villages or towns. Even if they were obviously starving, they still refused our help and wanted us to leave. A few places were in horrible condition and we helped them even though they tried to refuse. If we left them alone, they would have died from starving if beasts didn’t attack them first. If the group has enough strength to hunt, then they can survive well here but hunting is always dangerous and if everyone who is capable of hunting dies then they will have a bleak futu

A walk in the forest

14. A walk in the forest. Melinda is gone. The kids look worried. Some of them at least. I should say something to help them calm down. It must be hard to rely on a vampire like me. What should I say to them? Melinda wanted me to call her by her name. I wonder if it’s the same with the children. I guess I wouldn’t want to be called vampire in my daily life. I should ask their names and if they don’t have them, I should come up with one. Anna and Emma have names and I know them, so I don’t need to worry about the cat girls. “Hey fox girl.” She looks back at me with wariness while holding the sword closer to her. “Don’t worry, I will let you hold on to the sword as long as you use it to protect others. I just wanted to know your name. Actually, I want to know everyone’s name here. We are going to be spending a lot of time together and working together so it would be better if I could call you by your name.” “Susie.” She says quickly in a quiet voice and

#8

#8 They finally healed enough for them to teach me about different herbs and their effects. There are a lot of different kinds and most are similar to what we have in earth. If eaten they are good for you. Some taste good and some don’t. Some you can’t eat but applied in wounds they help keep it clean and make the healing process quicker. Rann and Tefa couldn’t explain how they work or why. They only had knowledge on the effects and how to use them. The skeleton on the other hand had studied some herbs quite a bit and how they affect mana. He explained that some of the herbs can make mana in your body move faster or help absorb the mana from the outside world. He said that its because the herb impacts the mana inside of you in a certain way which has beneficial effects, but he hasn’t studied it enough to know more. He also ran out of test subjects so the research on that didn’t advance that much. There were also herbs that had the opposite effect which cou

Wondering.

It has been a while again. I have been posting new chapters quite regularly which has been nice.  I could even put up a new schedule now that I think I can keep it.  I pretty much write a new chapter every four days. There might be some delays because of school or friends and family but those should be rarely and short delays.  I feel better because of my schedule now. I like writing chapters and I like doing the free time things more too.  I still feel nervous about somethings but it doesn't bother me that much.  I also started writing new things and I have been wondering if I should start the fourth book soon.  I kind of want to write the sequels to Melissa´s Archway but I need to wait a bit for the stories of other books to advance first. I might write the prologue in advance though but we will see.  I have been thinking about my problems in writing too. I wonder if the characters would actually do or react in the way I write them. Or the animals. I

Things that will be

17. Things that will be. Pain, intense pain. Why do I feel so much pain? Why am I always in pain? I’m sick of it. I am so sick of it. I hate it. I hate everything. Everything is causing me pain. I will kill them. I will kill everybody. They can’t hurt me then. I open my eyes and its dark. I move my hands while ignoring the pain and notice that my clothes are different from before. They aren’t rough, thin and there are no holes in them either. They feel smooth and soft but still durable. I put my hand behind my back, and I find my dagger there. I use my other hand to try to find the spider woman. I don’t even have to more until my hand touches her head. The head moves up as I touch it. “A…wake?” “AAAH!” I scream as hard as I can and stab the dagger into her. Blood spurts out on my hand. I take out the dagger and stab her again. I feel drops of blood hit my face. I try to do it again, but her hands wrap around me. I flinch as I realize that I w
